The Phoenix Suns advanced to the Western Conference Finals after a 110-80 thrashing of the Dallas Mavericks.
The Mavericks led by two points for most of the first half, but the Suns used a 13-6 run in the final 5:42 to take a 49-46 lead into the locker room.
Jalen Brunson of the Mavericks cut the Suns' lead to one with a mid-range fadeaway from the left post. The Suns went on a 17-0 run to blow the game wide open.
Suns coach Monty Williams tweaked his game plan ahead of last night's game, but the team's collective defensive effort improved, especially in the second half.
It helped us early on when we forced them into late clock situations, and a few guys were able to stay in front of the ball,” Williams said.
“I thought we were pretty good at contesting and stealing out to their shooters.”
Deandre Ayton, the Suns' centre, explained how crucial this defensive effort is to their success.
