Avalanche in Colorado Predators clinch sweep

Darryl Sutter, the Calgary Flames' head coach, famously predicted a first-round series versus the Colorado Avalanche would be "a waste of eight days."

Colorado won the first-round Western Conference series 5-3 on Monday night, eliminating the final wild-card team.

The Avalanche triumphed with backup goalkeeper Pavel Francouz in net while starter Darcy Kuemper recovers from an eye injury in Game 3.

They also triumphed with their trademark offensive ferocity, allowing them to rally in the final period.

A goal and two assists in the win gave Makar 10 points in the postseason, the most by a defenseman through four games in NHL history.
